First to start off, my regular Monday partner came back in town,
and he will be with me at the lounge on this Monday, June 21.
You know who!
Tadataka were in Chicago in the last week, and seemed to be
another fruitful week for him (yay!).
Let’s welcome Tada’s return, end Monday with good notes, and
let Tuesday roll in!
Monday, June 21
at NB Lounge

(between Park and Lexington)

Then, Thursday.
Thursday is nice, and I only say that because we all know the next day is Friday.
On the top of that, singing with Toru makes my Thursday even lighter and merrier.
We will probably do some Japanese tunes that we will present
on Saturday’s show at Miles’ Cafe during the third set of the night.
If you unfortunately cannot make it to Miles’ Cafe in this weekend,
please join us at the Lounge on this Thursday.
(Of course, I won’t stop you if you’d like to see us on both Thursday and Saturday!)

Here is the 4th video clip from the last show at Miles’ Cafe (recorded during the gig on Saturday, May 15.) I took Yukari’s advise and picked this one (I couldn’t decide basically on my own between Tea For Two or My Favorite Things as the up tempo choice.) Thank you, Yukari, for your “executive decision!”
If you go to my MYSPACE page, you can see all 4 clips lined up. Please visit myspace.com/mamikotaira.
Toruand I will be back to Miles’ Cafe in 2 weeks from today, Saturday, June 26. This will be our 3rd show at the cafe which I, personally, am very psyched.
It is so nice to work with a fantastic musician like Toru in regular basis, and to able to build unique repertoires with our signatures on them (“Stamp! That’s Ours!!” – the feel of ownership.) If you liked what you saw and can share your time with us, please come to Miles’ Cafe on Saturday, June 26th. The show will start at 8PM and end at 11PM-ish.
There are things to remind you: (which I am not so keen on making your arrival complicated, but, it is better than being secret about them!)
Miles’ Cafe is currently taking BYOB/F style due to backend issues (waiting for the liquor license, no cook on-board, etc.) If you prefer to drink alcohol, please bring on your own. If you would like to eat dinner, please bring your own as well. Miles’ Cafe only serves soft drinks and snacks which will count towards the minimum. As the guide, including cover charge of $10 per person with the minimum and tip for the wait staff, please expect $20 of spending at least with or without BYO items. Some of you may feel this is out of your budget, some may be OK with it. However, we sincerely hope our music is $20-worth to you and the night becomes memorable for all of us…

Thinking.
Thinking, thinking, and thinking.
More thinking…
I thought of writing some stuff here to spit out
what my brain is lately processing, but
I couldn’t put them together well yet (to let people read.)
Therefore, I shall hold those thoughts for now
(although that goes against the title. Sorry!)
Instead…
It’s nice to have a little break from the mandatory “to-do” list
- Just a short pause, nothing significant.
Luckily, I was able to find a perfect “pause” on this Tuesday (yesterday),
and went to the Yankees game with my friend.
It turned out to be another wonderful night at NB on last Thursday.
Thank you, Eishin!
Not just you sounded wonderful, but also
you looked really being almost… sparkly and alive
(I should’ve brought my camera with me – darn it!).
For this coming Monday, Tada is taking an evening off, and
Toru is filling in his absence.
So… in the next week, I will have Toru on both Monday and Thursday.
Dear Toru-fans, make sure to mark your calendar!
Here is another clip from the last gig at Miles’ Cafe.
Just a reminder… at first, the screen may bit shaky,
but it will eventually settle.
If you get sick watching it, all you need to do is
to close your eyes and listen to the track ;)
And here is a quick reminder for tonight:

I’m writing this on Monday, the 24th, a day of my gig with Tadataka at NB. This blog is cross-posted to both Mixi and Facebook (if you have noticed). Mixi updates my entry promptly, but Facebook takes longer to reflect in “Notes” (lately it takes about 2 full days – used to be quicker – wonder why!?) If this is something foreign to you, I apologize. I am just talking to myself about few tricks to cross-post this blog to other Social Media sites without making multiple cut & paste. Anyhow, I decided to talk’bout Thursday because of the reason above. So… Before I get into… I should write proactively “It was a great night at NB on “last” Monday with Tadataka, and thank you so much for people who came out and support the music!” – it will be, and I assure you!
So. Ever since I have uploaded the video clip (with motion sickness advised) of “night and day,” visitor numbers are extremely higher than normal and I am somehow pleased and at the same time worried. The pleasure is, of course, that I found many people accessed and watched us playing. The worry is that is backed by some curiosity of how people thought of it. (I know the people who were there on the day we performed liked it, but I have no idea particularly of the people in far east (wink, wink!). Maybe this isn’t a style they often see or expect to be seen, blah, blah, blah… that kinda stuff.) Despite the fact I received no reaction so far, I am most likely going to upload at least few tracks – one ballad later in the week as early as Wednesday night in my time (EDT). Stay tuned!
ANYHOW! On this coming Thursday, Toru’s back in the lounge. (YES!) Although the weather forecast says Thursday is going to be a bit stormy (really? NO, please say NO!), but the lounge will keep you dry from the rain :) Please come by and hang with us.

On May 31, we will take a break. There is no performance on Monday, Memorial Day. The lounge is open, but no performance. Please come back on Thursday, June 3rd!
Speaking of June, here is the June Calendar. June’s notable, so far, is definitely “Miles’ Cafe” on Saturday, the 26th. Toru and I are slowly, but surely building up Japanese song repertoire (haha!). I think we will do quite some number of Japanese songs at the 2nd set of the evening. The sound is totally “us” and I am positive that you will enjoy it. Please mark your calendar!
The next “Mamiko with Toru Dodo” date at Miles’ Cafe is
Saturday, June 26 from 8PM.
The link above is the video clip of us playing “Night and Day”
from our last performance at Miles’ Cafe.
I hope you can get a feel of our music and the room. Enjoy!
(Thank you, Ellynne, for holding my heavy camera by hands
to videotape us! Love you!! – I bought a tripod, BTW!)
a dear friend of mine, Akiko Tsuruga, will be with me at NB Lounge
on both Monday, the 10th and Thursday, the 13th.
You think she is an organ player and may wonder what she is going to play at NB.
Is she going to bring in her organ? No. She will play piano.
Really?
Really.
She is a wonderful piano player that everyone should hear her (in my opinion!)
I would like to invite as many people as possible for this fantastic occasion.
Please stop by at NB Lounge on Monday and/or Thursday :)

The next is Miles’ Cafe on Saturday.
Toru and I will be back to the cafe on Saturday, the 15th for the second time.
As we both mentioned in each of our blogs,
the sound is simply exquisite in that room and the piano is in super good condition
that make all of us addicted.
I really want as many people as possible to experience this little sanctuary
- with our music, of course!
Miles’ Cafe is still waiting for to get permitted to serve alcohol and
at moment only serving soft drinks and snacks (candies/nuts, etc.)
Therefore, please bring your own bottles if you prefer alcohol drinks!
Also, they haven’t been able to serve a full food menu yet; therefore,
please bring your own dinner if you are planning on eating big.
Further information, please contact Miles’ Cafe at 212-371-7657 directly.

It makes your mind and body feel lighter as feather,
brings you laughter, and even fills you with a new hope.
It makes you want to share your joy with others.
It is perhaps much springier than April with certain throb.
In Japan, the month of March is the graduation season.
We will exchange many goodbyes – many smiles, many tears.
Then from April, some will continue to the next school or to start working.
April is the time to adapt newness – renewal, reborn, restart are definitely a part of it.
Some may need to reacquaint himself to the new commuting schedule and route.
Some may need to wake up earlier than before or stay up later than before.
Some may have a hard time picking the clothes to work.
Some may need to memorize 50 people in one time!
Too many things, too little time
Who said that? It’s so true!
The April will be gone before you know it.
Then, it’s May.
Going through the entire April embracing newness,
“a freshman” begins to feel comfortable just enough to look around and
even feels grown old just enough to talk like the guy next to him.
Then, he finds himself a small, but his precious, own “pace” and “time”
without knowing the beat won’t let him slow down until a tune ends,
without knowing the tune will bring him another tune to play….
